Description

George IV

George IV (1762–1830) was King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1820 to his death. The eldest son of George III, he alienated his subjects with his prodigious spending and contemptuous treatment of his wife, Queen Caroline, whom he refused to admit to his coronation. Two one-page DSs, both measuring 9.5 x 14.5, both signed at the top, “George R,” and “George PR,” respectively, one dated September 1821, the other dated January 1813. Both are headed “The Word For,” containing the daily passwords for the Court and the City for the respective months. Both documents are affixed to identical size pieces of heavier stock. Accompanied by a 1906 TLS from the Windsor Castle librarian acknowledging the documents. Scattered toning and soiling, several small separations, and previous storage folds, otherwise very good condition. RRAuction COA.
