TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, October 27, 1932. President Herbert Hoover signed this letter to R.B. Gerard of the Sargent Company for his and his group’s unfailing support…and for a certain gift. In full, the letter reads: “It is stimulating to know that men like yourself, imbued with a fine spirit of responsibility for the future of your immediate community and the company at large, having taken so vital an interest in this campaign. I deeply appreciate it. I like the inspiration conveyed by the bronze plaque depicting the rugged and fine type of our American people as represented by the Gloucester Fisherman. Please accept my appreciation of your thoughtfulness in sending it to me.” Hoover’s flowing signature closes the letter, which is accompanied by its original mailing envelope.
