Founder of IBM, he built it into one of the most powerful companies in the world, was one of the richest men of his time and called the world’s greatest salesman when he died. TLS signed “Tho. J. Watson,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, May 4, 1950. Letter to a young collector. In part: “Whatever success I have achieved I attribute to the teachings of my father and mother, and to the help, instruction and support I have received from the members of my family and associates in business…As you will gather from this talk, I believe -- and this belief, a personal philosophy, is based upon observation and experience -- that if a young man of character, in choosing his life’s work, will settle on a career in a field about which he can be enthusiastic, and therefore one in which he will enjoy putting the required amount of work and study, he will eventually achieve the success and happiness he seeks.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
