J. M. W. Turner

Important British artist (1775–1851) who takes a place among the pioneering figures in the impressionist style. At the time it was auctioned in 1980 for $6.4 million, his Juliet and Her Nurse was the most expensive painting ever sold. ALS, one page, 4.25 x 7.25, June 20. Turner writes to his close friend, Clara [Wheeler]. In full: “I fear much that I shall be prevented the pleasure of being one of your party tomorrow evg. for after all I must dine out and to a very late hour.” A few light stains (mainly to blank portions) and light creases, otherwise fine condition.
