His kingdom for a horse

King of England, Scotland, and Ireland (born 1600) from 1625 until his execution in the wake of the English Civil War in 1649. Following the Protectorate rule of Oliver Cromwell and his son, Richard, Charles’s line was restored to the throne with the succession of his son, Charles II, in 1660, whose reign was retroactively dated to 1649. Scarce manuscript DS, signed “Charles R.,” one page, 6 x 2.5 (irregular), November 3, 1637. A document relating to the purchase of horses purchased for Queen Marie. Matted and framed with an antique portrait engraving to an overall size of 10 x 16. In very good condition, with irregular trimming to bottom edge as noted, light soiling and wrinkling, and scattered spotting (a few spots touching signature).
