Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren

Partly printed DS, signed “Andrew Jackson” as President and “M Van Buren” as Secretary of State, one page on vellum, 11.25 x 14.5, May 22, 1830. A patent issued to Thomas R. Williams for “a method of making or manufacturing felt or a substance in the nature thereof applicable to covering the bottom of vessels & other useful purposes.” Countersigned by J. Macpherson Berrien as Attorney General. The paper and ribbon seal remains intact at lower left. In good condition, with slightly irregular adhesion to Jackson’s signature, moderately irregular adhesion to Van Buren’s signature (both still legible), intersecting folds, a few small holes, and scattered wrinkling and soiling.
