John Quincy Adams

Partially-printed DS as president, signed “J. Q. Adams,” one page, 11 x 15, January 7, 1828. Scalloped-top ship’s pass issued to “the Brig Orbit of New York—Samuel M. Woodbury master and commander…mounted with two guns navigated with nine men to pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods, and Merchandise without any hindrance, seizure or molestation.” Signed at the bottom by Adams and countersigned by Secretary of State Henry Clay. Document is affixed to a larger board and double matted and framed (without glass) with portraits of Adams and Clay, to an overall size of 31 x 22.25. Adams’s and Clay’s signatures light, but legible, previous storage folds, and some scattered light soiling, otherwise fine condition. JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA. Oversized.
