Influential and forward-looking Austrian artist (1890–1918) who takes a place among the leading figures of the Expressionist movement of the early twentieth century. Schiele was among the millions of Europeans who succumbed to the Spanish flu during the epidemic of 1918. Scarce ink signature, “Schiele,” adding his return address, on a 4.5 x 3.5 mailing envelope illegibly addressed in his hand and postmarked 1911. In very good condition, with irregular edge from opening, slight blotting to signature, scattered light soiling and wrinkling, and a few small stains. The writing is dark and bold. R&R COA.
