Description

British soldier and statesman (1769–1852) who earned immortality for his stunning defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo and who later served in the British government, including a brief tenure as Prime Minister.  Hand-addressed free-franked nvelope, 5 x 3, addressed by Wellington in his always difficult to decipher hand and dated August 25, 1835. Franked in the lower left corner “free, Wellington.” Accompanied by a handsome color 8 x 10 portrait of Wellington, suitable for matting. Some mild edge wear and creasing, some scattered light toning and soiling, and intact wax seal on reverse, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
