Wallace left the manuscript of his autobiography incomplete upon his death, and the work was finished by his wife, Susan Wallace, and Mary H. Krout. So that this “autograph edition” could be published, Susan Wallace also personally supplied the publisher with 250 examples of her late husband’s authentically penned signature, which accounts for the unusual format.
