Signing a check as president “in acknowledgement of patriotic and valuable services given ... in time of war”

War Industries Board government check, 8.5 x 3.25, filled out in type and signed by Wilson as president, payable to Harry C. Ross for $1.00, September 6, 1919. Countersigned by influential financier and presidential advisor Bernard Baruch as Chairman of the War Industries Board. On the same day, in Des Moines, Iowa, Wilson delivered his famous “For the League of Nations” speech, which was ranked as one of the top 100 American speeches of the twentieth century in a 1999 poll of historians and other scholars. In very good condition, with toning and light staining and small chip to top edge. The signature is dark and clear. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
