1840 whaling ship’s papers

Partly printed DS as president, signed “M. Van Buren,” one page, 21 x 16.5, April 13, 1840. A four-language ship’s papers issued to William H. Taylor, “master or commander of the ship called Grand Turk … bound for South Atlantic Ocean and laden with Provisions, Stores, and Utensils for a whaling voyage….” Countersigned by John Forsyth as secretary of state. The embossed paper seal remains intact. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (a few separations and small holes; associated light toning; vertical fold to “Buren”), mild wrinkling, and light offsetting stain from seal touching “M. Van” The signature is otherwise clear and distinct. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
