Partly printed DS as president, signed “J. Tyler,” one page, 20.25 x 16.5, May 6, 1842. A four-language ship’s papers issued to Joseph Bennett, Jr., “master or commander of the barque called Jasper … lying at present in the port of New Bedford and bound for Indian Ocean and laden with Provisions, Stores, and Utensils for a whaling voyage….” Countersigned by Dan[ie]l Webster as secretary of state. The embossed paper seal remains intact. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (a few separations and small holes; associated light toning; vertical fold between “J” and “T” of Tyler’s signature and “D” of Webster’s signature), mild wrinkling, and a few small scattered stains (one just touching “D” of Webster’s signature) The signature, which is quite large and dark, is otherwise unaffected.
