Description

Townshend’s frank comments on the production of Tommy, including Pinball Wizard, Acid Queen, and See Me, Feel Me

Townshend made his name as the guitarist and principal songwriter for rock band The Who. His career with them spans more than forty years, during which time the band grew to be considered one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time. Extremely rare handwritten track-by-track analysis of the 1989 presentation of Tommy as performed for charity in New York and Los Angeles on three 8.5 x 11.75 off-white pages. Townshend bluntly notes suggestions for improvement, commentary and praise throughout. Several notations are as follows: Overture: “OK, Any detail Simon feels necc,” Uncle Ernie: “surprisingly good without visuals,” Acid Queen: “Vocal pretty good.” See Me: “Vocal less dramatic & whimpering,” Pinball: “Definition in trade again?,” and Holiday Camp: “Vocals fluffed and fairly dull.” In fine condition with staple holes to the upper left corners, a small stain and a tear to the upper right corner of the first page. Pete Townshend is extremely rare in handwritten material, and this manuscript with direct association to his finest work is the best you could hope to find. COA Roger Epperson/REAL and R&R COA.
