Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia (1726–1806). Ink signature, “By the Honourable George Wythe, Chancellor, Richmond, Virginia,” on an off-white 4 x 4 slip evidently clipped from a document. Wythe assumed the post of State Chancellor in 1786. Matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 13.75 x 9.5. A touch of mild wrinkling and faint seal-related stain to blank portion, otherwise fine, bright condition. In his 1995 reference History Comes to Life, Kenneth Rendell places Wythe’s autograph material into the “rare” category among the Signers. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
