Issuing payment for “interest due on Money borrowed by the United States”

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey (1737–1791) who attained additional historical import as one of the designers of the original American flag and the first native-born American composer. DS, signed “Fr. Hopkinson,” one page, 7.75 x 3.5, November 18, 1780. A sight draft for thirty dollars made out to Samuel Treat “for Interest due on Money borrowed by the United States.” Matted and framed with a portrait and engraved plaque to an overall size of 14.5 x 20.5. Very faint vertical fold and light show-through from docketing to reverse, no faults affecting the large, bold signature, otherwise fine, fresh condition.
