President Monroe grants Luke Barton, “having deposited in the General Land Office a warrant in his favour, numbered 7760…late a private in Marstons Company of the twenty-first regiment…one hundred and sixty acres in the Northwest quarter of Township Twelve North in the tract for Military Bounties in the territory Illinois.” Boldly signed “James Monroe” at the conclusion, countersigned by Josiah Meigs, Commissioner of the General Land Office. The wafer seal is intact, and a newspaper announcement of surveying of the parcel is affixed to the reverse.
