Edison “verily” asserts himself as “the inventor of the new and useful Improvements in Phonogram-Blanks.”

DS, signed “Thomas Alva Edison,” one page, 7.75 x 13, Oat. State of New Jersey. County of Essex. letterhead, August 24, 1888. Notarized document in which Edison makes an oath that “I verily believe that I am the inventor of the new and useful Improvements in Phonogram-Blanks, described and claimed in the annexed specification in duplicate, and for which I solicit a patent by my petition…And I further say that the several allegations contained in the said petition are respectively true and correct.” In very good condition, with usual file and staple holes to top, three horizontal folds repaired with adhesive tape on the reverse with one fold having gone through the paraph above Edison’s signature, a small area of paper loss in the first paragraph, not affecting legibility.
