Mining magnate, owner of the San Francisco Daily Examiner, and founder of the Hearst fortune; he expanded sensationalistic journalism. Vintage 10 x 12.5 photo of Hearst and Louis B. Mayer (Russian-born American film producer who formed a film company in 1918 and merged with Samuel Goldwyn to form Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1924) in tuxedos, shaking hands and smiling at each other, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “Dear Ida, This is a very good picture of me with my grandson Louis [?]. You can plainly see that…something in our family. Affectionately, W.R. Hearst.” When Hearst learned through Hedda Hopper of Welles' film Citizen Kane, he set out to protect his reputation by shutting the film down. Hollywood executives, led by Louis B. Mayer, rallied around Hearst, attempting to buy Citizen Kane in order to burn the negative.That never happened, though. The photograph is framed to an overall size of 11 x 14.
