Promoted to General der Panzertruppen and on the outbreak of war was given command of the Nineteenth Corps, which he led in the Polish Campaign. For the battle of France he was given a Panzer group, and his brilliant handling was a perfect demonstration of the concept of blitzkrieg -rapid armored breakthrough, supported by air power, on a narrow front- which he had propagated in his writings. Lot of two signed items: an ALS, 7 x 9, in German, on Der Kommandierende General des XVI Armeekorps letterhead, April 30, 1938, Berlin. The letter is to a veterinarian, congratulating him on his forty years of service and praising him for his work with infantry regiment 17, signed “Guderian”; and, a book profile portrait, 6.5 x 8.5, signed “Guderian” in the border beneath the image. In overall fine condition, with scattered faint toning to the letter, a few separations and creases in the borders of the book photo. R&R COA.
