Description

French general. In 1780 he came to America with troops to fight with George Washington. In 1781 he helped plan the Battle of Yorktown in Virginia where he defeated Lord Cornwallis. DS, signed 'de Rochambeau,' one page, 8 x 7, March 17, 1760. Document, in French, signed as Colonel of the regiment. Rochambeau attests Philippe Joseph has been an honorable soldier, but has been discharged because of his advanced age and many wounds. In fine condition, with some scattered light toning and soiling.
