Grant from his tenures as American president and Commanding General of the U.S. Army, including: Adam Badeau, Union Army officer and author (ALS, September 14, 1872); Joseph P. Bradley, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (signature); Asa Fowler, New Hampshire jurist (ALS to President Grant, October 19, 1869); Isaac Roberts Hawkins, Union officer and congressman (ALS to President Grant, June 14, 1870); Lot M. Morrill, Grant’s Secretary of the Treasury (ALS, April 7, 1859); Edwards Pierrepont, Grant’s Attorney General (ALS, February 7, 1864); William Strong, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (2: ALS and signature); Charles Sumner, Massachusetts politician and Dean of the U.S. Senate (ALS, March 10, 1869); and Morrison Waite, Chief Justice of the United States (3: ALS from October 24, 1886, and two signatures). The Morrill is affixed inside a presentation folder and the Pierrepont is affixed to a slightly larger mount. In overall very good to fine condition, with a small tape stain touching the end of Sumner's last name. The letters are accompanied by complete typescripts from the Lincoln Library in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
