Description

Beautiful McCartney and Martin signed photograph, obtained during the 1982 recording of the ‘Take It Away’ music video at EMI Studios

Attractive glossy 8 x 10 close-up photo of Paul McCartney holding a microphone, signed in blue ballpoint by McCartney and in black ballpoint by George Martin. Includes a glossy 10 x 8 photo of McCartney as a young member of the Beatles and as a solo musician in the 1980s, signed in black ballpoint by his wife, Linda McCartney, and by songwriter and McCartney collaborator Eric Stewart. The consignor notes that the autographs were obtained during the filming of the Paul McCartney music video ‘Take It Away’ at EMI Studios in Elstree, Borehamwood, England, on June 23, 1982. In overall very fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks, an original postcard from the Wings Fun Club sent to members to apply to appear in the ‘Take It Away’ video, the original Wings Fun Club letter sent to members selected to appear in the video, and an instruction sheet from Elstree Studios attendees of the video shoot.

Also includes a letter of provenance from the original recipient: “As members of the Wings Fun Club, from the start, we were excited to be invited to apply to go to Elstree studios for the filming of ‘Take It Away’ from the Tug of War album. There were limited places available so we were excited to then be allocated tickets to be part of the audience and received full instructions of where to go and what to expect on the day. After an early start and long journey we arrived and were taken into a vast empty studio along with a couple of hundred fans. Eventually we were moved into the film studio with the fabulous dome setting ready for the start of filming. With John Hurt starring as the ‘impresario’ and the band featuring Eric Stewart and Ringo Starr it was also a surprise to see George Martin attending too. We were then given instructions of when to clap, cheer and rise to our feet during filming and during takes Paul and the band interacted with us and even played some impromptu song requests. When filming finished Paul promised to sign autographs for everyone and asked for our patience. We were able to get signatures from Paul, Linda, Eric Stewart and George Martin but Ringo made an early exit with his wife Barbara Bach.”
