War-dated manuscript DS from King George II, signed twice as “George R.,” one page both sides, 11 x 18.25, June 20, 1744. On one side, the king orders that payments made to “Guards, Garrisons and Land Forces in Great Britain” have deducted “One days pay yearly” for the better maintenance of “disabled Officers and Soldiers.” On the other, the king outlines a “Regulation of Subsistence to be paid to every Officer and Soldier on the Foregoing (Unnamed) Establishment,” with various ranks and the amount of pay to be received listed below. The tops of both sides are signed by King George II, with the side related to ‘disabled officers’ countersigned by George Compton, the Sixth Earl of Northampton, Charles Sackville, Earl of Middlesex, 2nd Duke of Dorset, as Lord of the Treasury, and Henry Fox, 1st Baron Holland, as Secretary at War, Paymaster of the Forces, and Leader of the House of Commons. In fine condition, with light toning and soiling.
