Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey (1713-1779). Bold ink signature, "John Hart,” on an off-white 3 x 1.75 slip affixed to a manuscript letter attesting that the signature was “written in 1742” and “found in the hands of a grandson of his sister and on the farm, where John Hart was born and for many years resided.” Another period slip, annotated "Seal'd and Deliver'd in the Presence of," is affixed directly above the Hart signature.
