Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut (1731-1796) and seventh president of the Continental Congress. Hand-addressed and signed free frank, 8 x 6.5, addressed in the hand of Samuel Huntington, "For The Hon'ble Jabez Huntington, Esq., Norwich," and signed in the lower left corner, "S. Huntington, Free." On the reverse is a handwritten letter to Samuel Huntington by Jabez Huntington, reusing the paper from the letter sent to him (likely owing to wartime shortages), dated May 7, 1776, in part: "Congratulate you on the success of Canon for N. London Harbour & the prospect of having assistance from Congress to fortify thereas. I am clearly of opinion that no Harbour in any of the United Colonies is so well situated & formed to serve the Continental Fleet…I understand from Doc Turner that a number of the sick men belonging to the Continental fleet are now in hospital at N. London." He goes on to recommend Dr. Turner for service to the "Continentals" should any more hospitals be established, citing his "experience in the Army & known skill in surgery." In fine condition, with some minor seal-related paper loss. Accompanied by a manuscript pay order for Jabez Huntington's son, "Gen. Jed'h Huntington," issued by the Connecticut Pay-Table Committee on March 8, 1781.
