Union general (1816–1894) who led forces at Shenandoah, Red River, and elsewhere. Prior to the Civil War, he served as governor of Massachusetts and speaker of the US House of Representatives. Civil War-dated ALS signed “N. P. Banks, M.G.C.,” one page, 6.75 x 9, Head-Quarter's King's Division letterhead, June 25, 1862. Handwritten letter to Major Perkins directing the encampment of his corps, shortly after the conclusion of the Shenandoah Valley campaign. In full: "Select a good position and camp our Corps where they are. I return in an ambulance." In fine condition.
