Complete issue of the Pennsylvania Chronicle and Universal Advertiser from Monday, November 13 to Monday, November 20, 1769, eight pages, 9.5 x 11.75, containing news of discontent in the colonies regarding the Townshend Acts, with the first page describing events around Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In Marblehead, a meeting on October 27th between merchants and traders at the Bunch of Grapes tavern agreed that they “will not send for or import any kinds of goods from Great Britain…until the American Revenue Acts are repealed.” Meetings and town votes in Providence and Newport resulted in the same demand for repeals and the discontinued “use of British & Foreign manufactures.” On the last page, a snippet from Boston on November 9th reads: “The Merchants of this town have lately agreed not to import any goods, some few articles excepted, from Great Britain, until all the revenue acts are repealed.” From New York on November 16th: “By Captain Mersey, from Gibraltar, we learn, that the Emperor of Morocco, has declared war against the English Nation.” In fine condition, with scattered light foxing and expected age toning.
