World War II-dated TLS signed “A. Einstein,” one page, 8.5 x 11, embossed personal letterhead, February 27, 1941. Addressed from Princeton, a letter to Frances Brand, secretary of the Mathematics Society of Brooklyn College in New York, in full: “Thank you very much for your invitation to address one of your meetings. Lack of time and poor health, however, do not permit me to accept this kind offer.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered small stains, and splitting to the intersecting folds repaired with archival tape on the reverse. Frances (Brand) Bauer was a scholar and engineer who was part of the design team responsible for the lift formula of Boeing’s wings.
