"Henry Laurens, President of Congress" forwards an Act calling for a "strict observance of the present Embargo on Provisions"

Important South Carolina statesman (1724–1792) who served in the Continental Congress. Revolutionary War-dated ALS signed “Henry Laurens, President of Congress,” one page, 7.25 x 9, August 17, 1778. Handwritten letter as president of the Continental Congress, sent to "The Honorable George Bryan Esquire, Vice President, Pennsylvania," in full: "I have the honor of inclosing under this Cover an act of Congress of the 14th Inst. requesting the supreme executive power of this State to adopt measures for insuring a strict observance of the present Embargo on Provisions." Beautifully cloth-matted and framed with an engraved portrait and biographical caption to an overall size of 26.25 x 24.5. In fine condition.
