Desirable first edition sheet music booklet for 'Canticle II' belonging to boy soprano John Hahessy (with his initials, "J.H.," on the cover, and his handwriting throughout the score), 27 pages, 9.25 x 12.25, signed and inscribed on the title page in blue ballpoint, "For John, with many congratulations on a wonderful first performance, Benjamin Britten," and "For John, with very many sincere thanks for a lovely performance, Peter Pears, 10th Dec. 1960." The music has several ink and pencil interpretation notations made throughout, given by both Britten and Pears to the young soprano. In very good to fine condition, with light handling wear, and the more heavily worn front cover detached but present. Hahessy recorded the work with Pears and Britten in London on April 29, 1961. A significant association piece.
