Dutch painter and printmaker (1819-1891) whose marine landscapes are regarded as a forerunner of Impressionism. ALS in French, signed “J. B. Jongkind,” one page both sides, 5.25 x 8.25, April 3, 1869. Handwritten letter addressed to "Monsieur Lille Brame, magazin de tableaux" in Paris. In part (translated): "As you have no payments to make to me, I would ask you to be good enough to give me an advance if that doesn’t disturb you to pay me the full sum. As the sum is of 900 francs you would be so kind to give me 500 or 600 francs as an advance. Please give me an answer that you will come and see me or I will go to you." In very good to fine condition, with light edge toning, and seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf.
