Description

Pair of lightweight Rocky 911 Series Launch Entry Suit (LES) boots issued as flight-ready for a journey to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery orbiter for the STS-133 mission. The black leather-and-canvas mid-calf-length boots feature Vibram soles and retain their original laces, and the heel of the right foot bears an affixed yellow label marked “S/N 5032, 8.5 M.” The boots are sealed in their deaccession bag with affixed labels, one of which is struck through in red felt tip and marked “III.” Includes a NASA Excess Transportation Document, with an excess date of April 5, 2021, and a “JSC Project Parts” tag also marked “III,” which reads: “Part Number SED 33104554-305, [8.5 M], S/N 5032, Part Name Rocky Boot Assy Lightweight LES,” with the lower portion of the attached FCE 911 Report annotated “PIA Complete, MS-4 CE026903…9/03/10,” “OK for FLT STS 133 ULF5, 1027, USA 37823…9/21/10,” and “Received at KSC…Oct 4, 10.” In fine condition. Launched on February 24, 2011, STS-133 marked Discovery's 39th and final mission, and was also classified as ISS assembly flight ULF5, with the latter standing for Utilization Flight and Logistics 5, a designation pertaining to the build schedule of the International Space Station. The six-person crew joined the long-duration six-person crew of Expedition 26, who were already aboard the space station. The mission transported several items to the ISS, including the Permanent Multipurpose Module Leonardo, which was left permanently docked to one of the station's ports, the third of four ExPRESS Logistics Carriers to the ISS, and a humanoid robot called Robonaut. RR Auction is unable to determine if these boots were actually flown to the ISS.
