Description

French statesman (1619-1683) who served as the controller-general of finance under King Louis XIV; his lasting impact on the organization of the country's politics and markets, known as Colbertism, a doctrine often characterized as a variant of mercantilism, earned him the nickname 'le Grand Colbert.' Manuscript DS in French, signed "Colbert," one page, 9.5 x 14.25, 1678. Financial document headed "Extrait de L'Estate G'nal," approved at the conclusion by Colbert. In very good to fine condition, with rusty circular paperclip impressions to the edge and light foxing.
