Description

British businessman, mining magnate, and politician in southern Africa (1853-1902) who served as Prime Minister of the Cape Colony from 1890 to 1896. A proponent of British imperialism, recent critics have characterized him as an architect of apartheid. ALS signed “C. J. Rhodes,” one page, 5 x 8, Burlington Hotel letterhead, no date. Handwritten letter to "Lady Lindsay," in full: "I have just written and asked Lady Evan-Smith to come on Friday with her husband and dine with me. Will you not come also. I hope you will." In fine condition.
