Handwritten character summaries from an O. Henry play

Short story writer born William Sydney Porter (1862-1910) known for his use of the surprise ending. Partial handwritten manuscript in pencil by O. Henry, unsigned one page, 7.75 x 9.75, no date. The great short story author writes out descriptions of two characters from his musical comedy Lo, a story about a countess's attempt to start a revolution in South America. In full: "Countess Della Plata, A wealthy lady revolutionist who has financed revolutions all over South America and in other countries. She is large, handsome, dashing and courageous. She is a champion of woman's rights—a modern Joan of Arc or Boadicea in spirit. She has obtained permission to accompany the expedition to Yucatan, with the object of stirring up a revolution there against the existing government. Miss Judkins—Teacher in Carlisle Thread College, in charge of the class of girl graduates who also accompany the expedition." In very good to fine condition, with toning, edge chipping, and reinforcement on the back of the central horizontal fold. The musical debuted in Milwaukee in August 1909.
