Japanese diplomat (1854-1926) and ambassador to the United States from 1900 to 1909, remembered as a principal negotiator in the Treaty of Portsmouth, which ended the Russo-Japanese War. Ink signature, "B. Takahira, Portsmouth, 18/8/05,” on an off-white 4 x 5.25 sheet of Hotel Wentworth stationery. In very good to fine condition, with discoloration and minor paper loss at the top, not affecting the bold signature. Accompanied by a newspaper clipping showing Takahira with President Theodore Roosevelt and other negotiators of the treaty.
