French naturalist and biologist (1744-1829) known as an early proponent of the concept of evolution and his mistaken theory of the inheritance of acquired characteristics. ADS in French, signed "Lamarck," one page, 7.25 x 9.5, July 31, 1792. Lamarck writes, in full (translated): "I, the undersigned, acknowledge having received from Panckoucke the sum of Seven hundred liveres in account of the part of the work for which I am responsible for the Encyclodpidie." In fine condition. Charles-Joseph Panckoucke was a French writer and publisher who oversaw the production of the Encyclopédie Méthodique, a remarkable encyclopedia of over 200 volumes; Lamarck contributed to its entries on botany.
