Description

The inventor of the stethoscope prescribes abstention from "the vice"

French physician (1781-1826) who invented the stethoscope in 1816 and pioneered its use for diagnosing chest problems. Rare ADS in French, signed “Laennec,” one page, 5 x 7.5, January 3, 1824. Medical prescription written by Laennec, in part (translated): "For Madame: 1. Apply again 13 bandages on the side that hurts. 2. If the side pain persists return to the employment of a topical remedy and use it until the extinction of the pain. 3. Continue the use of the prescribed beverages. 4. Abstain from the vice and of hot things." Signed at the conclusion by Laennec, and countersigned by physicians named Moreau and Pasquier. In fine condition.
