Description

Rare 1/4-inch reel-to-reel stereo tape containing 13 tracks from 'The Basement Tapes' featuring Bob Dylan and The Band, in its original box hand-addressed on the front in black felt tip in Bob Dylan's hand with the address of Tony Glover: "421 8th Street S.E., Mpls. 55414, T. Glover - Apt. 5." Inside is a typed track list: "1. Million Dollar Bash, 2. Yea Heavy and a Bottle of Bread, 3. Please Mrs. Henry, 4. Down in the Flood, 5. Lo and Behold, 6. Tiny Montgomery, 7. This Wheel's on Fire, 8. You Ain't Goin' Nowhere, 9. I Shall Be Released, 10. Too Much of Nothing, 11. Tears of Rage, 12. Mighty Quinn, 13. Nothing Was Delivered." Glover has written "Basements - B.D. Stereo" on the spine, and also penned the track list on the back of the box. In fine condition.

Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from REAL and by a photocopy of Glover's transcript of a phone call with Dylan on May 21, 1969, in which they discuss this tape. Dylan asks Glover for his address, and warns him to make a copy of it before listening: "Its one of those first copies, and ahh, you don't wanna play this one too much."

Recorded in West Saugerties, New York, during the summer of 1967, the 'Basement Tapes' consist of over 100 songs recorded by Bob Dylan and his then-backing group, the Band. These included original compositions as well as covers of traditional folk ballads, classic blues tunes, and other pieces. The thirteen songs on this tape are original pieces by Dylan and the Band.
