Description

The queen mother organizes auction items "for Bertie & me to see"

Fascinating ALS as queen mother, signed “Mary,” one page both sides, 4.75 x 7.5, Marlborough House letterhead, February 10, 1946. Letter to her nephew, ostensibly George Cambridge, the 2nd Marquess of Cambridge, in full: "Bertie agrees that the best way will be for Sir Harry Floyd to bring specimens of knives—forks etc to Buck: Palace as well as the other items of which you made a list—for Bertie & me to see—We do not want to hurry Christie's so will you let me know about what date, either morning or afternoon, will suit them for showing the silver, & I will than let you hear which day will suit Bertie best—Sir Harry Floyd must guide us as to the approximate prices the items will fetch—What a curious will your father made—for I quite thought the silver belonged to you, that is before you told me at Badminton the terms of the will." In fine condition. From the collection of Dr. Lawrence E. Miller. From the collection of Dr. Lawrence E. Miller.
