Description

English painter and sculptor (1802-1873) best known for his animal-inspired artwork; his most famous works are the lion sculptures in Trafalgar Square. ALS signed “E. Landseer,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7.25, September 22, 1860. Letter to a friend, in part: "Before leaving for my Holidays in the Highlands I try to thank you for your kind remembrance of me, and to say how very much pleased I am with 'The Lord and the Soul,' its pages constantly reminding me of Mrs. Inchbald you know—both outside and in are painted with fine observation and great accuracy. I do rejoice to find your mind's eye so robust, so evidently equal to many more volumes. On my return in October I send Lady E. I. something—to hang up—if you care to receive—an attempt. With sincere thanks for the Book, which I read with great pleasure." In fine condition, with intersecting folds.
