LS signed “Winf'd S. Hancock,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.5 x 8.5, July 14, 1882. Written from Governors Island, a letter to Virgie Wentz, in part: "Your nice little letter of July 2d was received. I have been confined to the house for some time with a temporary indisposition which has prevented me from writing before. I was greatly pleased to hear of the success of your party & that you had received so many banquets. One of the greatest mistakes of my life was that I did not send you one myself. I will try to correct it at some future day. I received Charley's hair & was much pleased to find it so beautiful a color…I will have to ask you again to pardon my dictation my correspondence has increased to such an extent that I cannot answer all my letters in my own hand." In fine condition.
