President Madison writes to his former secretary of war

ALS as president, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, November 1, 1813. Letter to former Secretary of War William Eustis, in full: "Will you permit me to enclose for your consideration a commission which may be recommended by the advantage of local conveniency? It will not be put on record untill your decision shall warrant, which it will be agreeable to receive as soon as it may be reasonably expected." In fine condition, with archival repairs on the reverse to separation along the two horizontal folds.
