Madison with his best respects to Mr. Southard, thanks him for the copy of his 'Centennial Address,' which is very happy, both in the choice & the case of its matter, and will doubtless be generally read with the pleasure with which it appears to have been heard." In fine condition. Samuel L. Southard, a prominent New Jersey statesman, had delivered an address in honor of the centenary of George Washington's birth on February 22, 1832, which was subsequently published.
