Description

Politician and financial genius (1761-1849) responsible for the formation of what is now known as the Ways and Means Committee. Partly-printed partial DS in French, one page, 13.5 x 8, November 19, 1878. Passport document offering aid and protection to John A. Smith. Signed at the conclusion by Gallatin and endorsed by several others. Red wax seal affixed to left side remains cracked and partially intact. In very good condition, with splits and paper loss along fragile intersecting folds (some have been repaired with old tape).
