Scarce participation medal issued for the 1956 Cortina Winter Olympics. Bronze, 40 mm, 34 gm, by Constantino Affer. The front features the head of Victory crowned with Olympic rings and encircled with raised text, “VII Giochi Olimpici Invernali”; the reverse depicts a snowflake over Mt. Pomagagnon, with raised text, “Citius, Altius, Fortius, Cortina 1956.” This unusually small example of the Cortina bronze commemoration medal was gifted to various high-ranking officials.
