Partly-printed DS as president, signed "M. Van Buren," one page, 21.25 x 16.75, September 20, 1839. A four-language ship's pass issued to "Nathaniel G. Gary, master or commander of the Ship called Montpelier...lying at present in the port of New Bedford, bound for Indian Ocean and laden with Provisions, Stores and Utensils for a whaling voyage." Boldly signed in the center by President Van Buren and countersigned by the acting secretary of state. The white paper seals affixed to the left side remain intact. In very good to fine condition, with scattered toning, and archival tape repair on the reverse to complete separations along intersecting folds. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
