Description

Stanley Baldwin

British politician who served as prime minister three times (1867–1947). World War II–dated ALS signed “Baldwin of Bewdley,” one page both sides, 5 x 8, Astley Hall letterhead, August 11, 1940. Letter to Mr. Cadbury. In part: “You are indeed a faithful friend to remember my birthday…We have a grandson in one of the battle fleets serving his first commission in the Royal Marines. Of our daughters’ husbands one who is in the Navy in the last has an Admiralty job in an unhealthy spot: another in head of A.R.P. in London, and a third has joined the Grenadiers. One daughter is driving ambulances in London. And so on….It needs patience when you know you can’t do the full time jobs as in the last war, and to pass from being an actor to being more or less of a spectator has peculiar temptations of its own!” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
