Yuri Andropov

Soviet politician (1914–1984) named chairman of the KGB from 1967, where his firm handling of dissident movements enhanced his reputation and enabled him to be chosen as Brezhnev's successor in 1983; he died after less than 15 months in office. TLS in Cyrillic, signed “Y. Andropov,” one page, 8 x 11.25, October 2, 1968. Letter to Mikhail Vasilyevich. In full (translated): "Please accept my condolences on the premature passing of your wife Tamara Ivanovna.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
